We Treat Bone Fractures!
Dr. Douglas Vlaskamp, DC, Chiropractor
We’ve had an interesting flurry of activity on the laser this month… fractures. These were mainly small bones in the thumb, foot and even ribs. A couple of them were weeks to months old and still bothersome. Each patient noticed a decrease in swelling after just one treatment. After a couple more treatments, pain was reduced. Although these started at different times and a couple of them are still receiving treatment, the general number of treatments was 6-8 before they were able to return to normal activities.
Low-Intensity laser therapy is extremely helpful in situations with inflammation and tissue damage. This includes muscles, tendons and even bones. It helps get the body’s inflammatory cycle into the healing phase, and stimulates the cells in each tissue that are involved in repairing any damage. It helps shorten healing time without creating serious side effects.
Low-Intensity laser therapy works by putting energy into the area it is placed over. As we know, sunlight on our skin helps our body produce vitamin D. The red and infrared waves used in laser therapy (which aren’t damaging like UV rays) stimulate each cell’s energy production in the mitochondria of the cell. This allows the cell to do what it needs to, without forcing any process which might create unwanted side effects.
If you have any condition with lots of inflammation, ask if Laser Therapy would be helpful for you.
