What is Chiropractic Treatment?

Chiropractic treatments have been offering patients relief from painful conditions for over 100 years.  Studies show that chiropractic treatment is safe and effective in the treatment of low back pain and it also helps so much more. Chiropractors receive 4 years of post-graduate training which makes them experts in the treatment of muscle, joint and nerve complaints throughout the body.

Since chiropractors are primary healthcare providers, you don’t need a referral from your M.D. to see a chiropractor.

Chiropractic treatment is natural and non-invasive. It works by improving the function of your joints and muscles.  Chiropractic treatment improves the function of your nervous system. Nerves connect the brain to the rest of the body via the spinal column.  If a muscle, bone, or disc is pressing or rubbing on the nerve, it will produce pain. That might lead to numbness or weakness in parts of the body away from the spine.

Although most people in Brampton probably associate chiropractors with treating back pain or sciatica, chiropractic treatment can help with all kinds of complaints. Some people even feel discomfort like heartburn or fullness in their ears from interference of nerve signals.  Make sure you mention all symptoms you are feeling to your chiropractor. They might be important to the development of your diagnosis.

What Chiropractic Treatments Will I Receive?

Hands-On Treatments:

Traditional Chiropractic Adjustments

Spinal manipulation or adjusting the spine is a time proven approach to healing all kinds of body pains. People from all over Brampton seek chiropractic treatment for back pain, sciatica, neck pain and other ailments. Manual chiropractic adjustments gently restore normal motion to “stuck” joints.  This helps reduce strain on muscles that are trying to move the joint and are becoming strained. Because the spine is so close to the spinal nerves, it also stimulates the nervous system to reduce pain.

Soft Tissue Therapies

The spine does not exist on its own.  Without muscles, we would not be able to move or even stand up! Treatment of muscles is crucial to recovering from many injuries.  Techniques such as stretching, pressure point therapy or myofascial release may be used to treat you, depending on the circumstances.

Rehabilitative exercises are often useful to complete the recovery process after an injury. Specific exercises will be given to support any weaknesses.  After that, general exercise also helps in your recovery.

Technology Assisted Treatments:

Impulse IQ Adjusting

Just as lasers have replaced scalpels in some surgeries, advanced technology has become available to chiropractors to assist in delivering chiropractic adjustments. The Impulse IQ adjusting instrument is controlled by a micro-computer housed within the device. This produces a controlled force that chiropractors can use to treat different parts of the body.

The computer-assist inside the Impulse IQ gives the doctor feedback about how the problem area is responding in real-time, for a custom tailored treatment. As the adjustment is delivered by the Impulse instrument, the precise amount of spinal motion and its speed are determined by the micro-computer in the device. As the spine rebounds from each thrust, information is fed into the computer. The technology in the device then sets the speed of further thrusts to match how your spine is moving. When the adjustment is accomplished, the machine shuts off.

Chiropractic adjustments with the Impulse adjusting instrument feel like a light tapping sensation on the area that is being treated. In most cases the treatment is painless and after the adjustment many patients feel improved mobility and relief from pain.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

You don’t have to suffer.  Spinal Decompression Therapy is the perfect option for various types of back pain that are common in Brampton, including: disc herniation, disc bulges, disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, and sciatica. Spinal Decompression therapy is also good for patients who cannot tolerate traditional chiropractic care.

Laser Therapy

Speed healing with light energy.  We use the Bioflex Low Intensity Laser Therapy System.  This laser has two effective uses, it speeds healing of acute injury and stimulates healing of lingering chronic conditions.  Using the healing power of light energy to stimulate the body’s cells, this technology is very effective and is used by professional sports teams.  Now it is available to you too!

Custom Orthotics

Your feet are your foundation.  Computerized Gait Scan Analysis is a computerized system for analyzing pressure patterns and weight distribution of the feet.  This is an accurate and less subjective system which, when combined with in depth testing of the feet and ankles, pinpoints which patients would benefit from orthotics.
