Custom Orthotic Inserts
If you have painful feet, stand a lot, walk a lot, are a runner or wear high heels, Custom Orthotics might be a solution for you!
You don’t have to suffer with nagging, painful foot conditions that might even cause pain further up in your body. We have years of experience fitting patients for custom inserts.
Chiropractors Make Great Orthotics
Chiropractors are a great choice to diagnose and fit your Custom Orthotics because they are trained to see your body as a whole entity. The “source” of your pain might not originate where you “feel” the pain. A Chiropractor’s training is geared to determining the root of your pain.
- We will examine your foot for proper mobility and position.
This may also include examining the muscles of the lower leg.
- Next, we will look at how you stand to see if you pronate (roll in) or supinate (tool out).
- We will perform a Computerized Gait Analysis to see exactly what your foot does while you stand and walk.
- A cast of your foot will be taken in a soft foam to send to the laboratory that manufactures the orthotic, creating a perfect match of your foot.
Like the foundation of a house, your feet support the weight of everything above them. When a small problem develops in your foot, subtle changes in the way you walk create a chain reaction of changes to your posture and the mechanics of how you walk. These changes place stress on the joints higher up in your body. This may lead to foot pain, knee pain, hip pain or back pain.

What Is A Custom Orthotic?
Custom orthotics are devices that are worn in your shoes to correct how your feet move, and help them work more efficiently. The way custom orthotics work for your feet is similar to how your glasses work for your eyes. Orthotics reduce stress and strain on the joints and muscles. Custom orthotics reduces symptoms such as foot pain, bunions or hammer toes, arch or heel pain, leg or knee pain or hip and low back pain. Like your glasses, custom orthotics are prescribed to fix the cause of your foot pain. Your feet are not like other people’s feet, so your custom orthotics will be different, too. Also like your glasses, orthotics only work for you when you are wearing them.
Technology To Assist Making of Custom Orthotics
Your foot is in contact with the ground for less than one second. Imagine trying to determine normal or abnormal foot function with the naked eye in a quarter of a second? This is too difficult to do accurately for even the most experienced practitioner. The GaitScan system records your gait as you walk across the pressure plate. This enables us to have a clear picture of your foot mechanics and determine whether you would benefit from wearing custom made foot orthotics.
The TOG GaitScan™ System is a revolutionary diagnostic tool for assessing your biomechanics. GaitScan™ has an industry high 4096 sensors and scans at an industry high 300Hz (scans per second). These measurements provide a sophisticated explanation of foot mechanics and assists with choosing custom orthotic and/or shoe solutions.
How Do I Get Custom Orthotics?
To get Custom Orthotics you can simply call our clinic and schedule a fitting with our Chiropractor.
If you would like your Extended Health Benefits Plan to pay for your Custom Orthotics you must meet the requirements of your Health Benefits Insurance Company. All Extended Health Benefits Plans are different. You should either call the Insurance Company or your employer and find out what your coverage is and what paperwork they require you to do.
Please ask your Insurance Provider these questions:
- Do I need a MD referral for Custom Orthotic coverage?
- Can a Chiropractor dispense the Custom Orthotic for me?
- What amount am I covered for?
- Is my coverage for Custom Inserts, Footwear or both?
- How often can I claim Custom Orthotics? (Calendar year or every 12 months?)
Once you know the answers to these questions please use the Book An Appointment Button at the top of this page or call our clinic 905-451-3963 and we will set up a Custom Orthotic appointment for you. We have years of experience providing patients with comfortable orthotics and providing all the paperwork required to make your claim.
