The Truth About Lymph Drainage
Manual Lymph Drainage is having a moment in social media, but some of the claims you may have read about are not accurate.
What is Lymph Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle technique that helps with swelling. It encourages the movement of lymphatic fluid away from swollen areas and promotes lymph circulation throughout the rest of the lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system runs throughout the body, similar to veins and arteries, but the lymph system has no pumping mechanism. The lymph system helps maintain fluid balance in the body and fights infection.
Lymph Drainage Helps:
Reduce swelling post cancer surgery
Reduce swelling post cosmetic surgery
Reduce fluid retention caused by illness
Reduce chronic fluid retention
Reduce swelling caused by injury - sprain or strain
Lymph Drainage Does Not:
Help you lose weight
Make you look younger
Our Registered Massage Therapists are trained to provide gentle Manual Lymphatic Drainage. If you are experiencing swelling, we recommend getting started with a 45 minute or 60 minute appointment and then your Massage Therapist will recommend a course of therapy that is designed for your particular needs.
To promote ongoing wellness we recommend eating a balanced diet with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, drinking lots of water, getting 8-9 hours of sleep, making exercise part of your daily routine and keeping your in person social connections strong!
